How loud do raptors get?
Is it just me or does my 36gb raptor give off a quite a high pitched whine?

Dunno but when my 150GB Raptors get defragged....it does wake me up at night ;) I'm actually looking into an SSD setup now for my OS drive, and maybe just a Caviar Black for storage. Hate to get rid of my Raptors but it's either them, or the wife

think my raptor is in the making for an rma.. i like their advanced placement one - sounds sweet.
i'll have to diagnose it

Hang the drive into some elastic bands in your 5.25 cage, they be silent.
if you got the room that is.

I got 4 drives in my server, dead silent, have to check if the machine is running.
(no raptors tho)

They are loud, but I kinda like the sound, giving an indication of speed and power ^.^

However, during seek, defrag, and AV scanning, it gets annoyingly loud. Makes me want to switch to a v-raptor, but no, I want SSDs more!

300GB Velociraptors are no noisier than normal drives.

Mine is barely audible even with the one side of the case open. It's noticeable when I'm defragging but beyond that I almost never hear it.

lol, i got 150gb raptor...i couldnt tell you how loud they are though because my 2 x ultra kaze (3000rpm) sounds like fighter jets lol

Can't hear mine over my fans. Though my 150 is definetly louder than the V-raptor.

The 36 GB's do have a whine to them. We have 4 of them raided in a display machine at work and they are noticably whiney when powered on.

Yep 74 GB Raptor sounds like running water buffalo....but I certainly don't mind that "clunking" sound.....I know they're working...but in hindsight, I should have saved the $$$ and picked up another Seagate Barracuda as that thing is literally silent and I really don't notice any significant gains between 10k and 7.2k!
