raid 5 expansion

This one is is really getting my brains going. I want to add a drive or two more to an existing raid 5 array done on ICH9r raid. Can it be done with out ruining my build? I spend more time on my software environment than I do on builds So, I would like to know, if I can power down, and pop in another matching drive and let the software do all the stuffs for me. NO rebuilds, NO reinstalls.

Can I add an additional hard drive to a RAID array? Adding an additional hard drive to a RAID array in order to increase the capacity is known as array expansion. One example of array expansion would be adding a fourth hard drive to a three-drive RAID 5 volume.

The only way to add hard drives to an ich9r array is to delete the array and rebuild it with the new drives. This means that all the data that you have on the array will be completely erased. When I wanted to add hard drives to my array i backed up all my data to an external hard drive that I bought from best buy. Once my upgrade was done i just returned the external and got all my money back.
