Default Hardware Canucks is Looking for (More) Writers

Hardware Canucks is Looking for Writers

Hardware Canucks, the site you have all come to know and love is in the process of expanding our writing staff. We have several positions open for interested candidates. Please CAREFULLY read the following text before submitting your candidacy.

All correspondence should be sent to skymtl@hardwarecanucks.com

In order to qualify:

- Must be a resident of either Canada or the USA

- Have the ability to work within set deadlines

- Possess working knowledge of Excel

- Have knowledge within one or several disciplines listed below

- Ability to use Photoshop or an equivalent image editing program

In your submission you must include:

- A list of publications you have written for in the past (if applicable)

- Submit a 1000+ word review with an intro, body and conclusion of a product from within one of the positions listed below.

- Product photos taken on white background which closely mirror the ones you see in our reviews. There should be at least two overall product image and two macro images. Placed atop the product should be a piece of paper with your name hand written on it to confirm the validity of the image.

Optional:

- A 750+ word article presenting a technology, industry observations / direction, etc. within your chosen position(s) (Examples: “How USB 3.0 will Change External Storage” or “Small Form Factors: The Way of the Future”. The more unique the better.

OR

- A How To article using items within your chosen position(s)

Positions Open:

Audio (sound cards, amps, speakers, etc.)

Experience with PC and home audio setup / installation and benchmarking is a must for this position. In addition, ownership of a mid to high-end sound card and home theatre receiver is essential.

Cases

Note that this requires a larger than normal photo setup.

Desktop Systems and Notebooks

This position is unique as the reviewer will be required to present and benchmark pre-made systems. This could include anything from a Dell laptop to net-tops to full-fledged desktop systems.

HTPC / SFF

A working knowledge of HD decoding, transcoding performance, etc. is essential. A working mATX / SFF / ITX HTPC system is preferred but not essential. HTPC-oriented case reviews are also a possibility. A HDCP-equipped monitor or TV is essential.

Memory

Much like the motherboard category, we would appreciate it if you had knowledge regarding memory overclocking before applying for this position. A functioning current system is also required. In addition, confirmed HWBot or CPU-Z validated link of an overclock you have achieved is suggested but not required.

Motherboards

Some overclocking experience is a must along with knowledge of the various platforms and technologies. However, you don't have to be a "ranked" overclocker or have access to high-end cooling products. AM2 / AM3, LGA1366, LGA1156 etc. compatible hardware or a combination thereof is essential. A confirmed HWBot or CPU-Z validated link of an overclock you have achieved is suggested but not required.

Peripherals

Gaming mice, keyboards, etc. all fall into this category. If you are a gamer who knows the ins and outs of a good peripheral, this position may be for you.

Apply and be part of the team!

You don't have to be. Look at the current writers and take Lemonlime as an example. He has done reviews of cases and motherboards and in his past reviewing job did coolers and CPUs as well. AkG does storage, coolers, cases, peripherals, etc. Heck, every one of the current reviewers is like a well-honed Swiss Army knife.

One of the things we are looking for is people who can adapt their writing styles to different aspects of the industry.

No.

The TH2Go review shows me that you can put sentences together but since it is a unique product, knowledge of it may not translate into knowledge within one of the areas listed above. Basically, you are half way there.

Yeah, i just dont know if i know a product well enough yet, well maybe i am probably just doubting myself. I was told by my prof in material science that i write very good reports (A+ in the course) but i feel i may come up short writing a test review here. Nothing like low self confidence sometimes

Edit: Also don't own a digital camera or have access to one until May (when i should be living with the girlfriend again and can have you take pictures with her digital slr camera)

Until the release of Eyefinity, it was very much the Only surround-gaming peripheral device available. But now that Eyefinity is out, it's even more pertinent since it directly compares to it.

Oh well.

Maybe you should make a essay on Eyefinity to take your place in the HWC review team:P it would be nice to have you here.
