My System Specs

Default 55nm GTX270 & GTX290 next week?

Finally some juicy gossip about the 55nm die shrink of the 260 & 280 to be now named supposedly the 270 & 290.

From theovalich.wordpress (who?)

Major power draw reductions, better clocks and overclocking potential. As a bonus (if this becomes reality), they are talking about a release next week.
I sure hope this rumour comes true.

I'll be right behind you RJ, I just need to get this damn Intel system up and running. Oh and thanks heavens if they rebadged it "GTX290" and "GTX270" its about freaking time we keep some sort sanity when it comes to the naming scheme.

The only thing that sucks with the "step-up" Program is the fact you can only "Step-up" to Vanilla Cards...really sucks n bugs me when you purchase higher end as I do...oh well....

How unfortunate for you my friend as for myself Vanilla GTX280 for Vanilla GTX280 a la 55nm

Honestly that blows especially since you paid more. I stopped all that after spending close $600+ on my 8800GT Akimbo SLI setup and getting back a heartbreaking $200 after I sold them both.

Regards,

EE

If you read the whole article, it is impossible to expect the 55nm consumer cards to launch next week.

I assume they put the 55nm in a Quadro card to test the yields and fix any issues before they start selling consumer 55nm cards ?

It would make sense especially considering the yields for the 55nm G92 cards were shit. So much so that it is still impossible to find a 55nm 9800GT.

Didn't realize that it's hard to find 55nm 9800GT so that's a very plausible guess :)

Look at our 9800GT Roundup. No 55nm cards at all.

I hear you...8800GTX = $565 / Sold to Jay 51 = $150.....ouch!

Their is quite a bit of "scuttle butt" rumors and such flying around on the Evga Web Site, surprisingly it is coming from Moderators...next week..is a "rumor"....no confirmation. Both new 55nm Cards (270 / 290) "rumored" to be quite a bit cooler then previous Cards with better OC'ing cpapbilities....we'll see.

Maybe in the next 4 weeks then?

Either way it would be nice if Nvidia announced release dates well ahead of time like Intel does. That way people buying cards can plan their purchase a bit better rather than being caught buying an older card and a few weeks later having a better model for a similar price.

Nvidia certainly knows how to wind its customers up with endless refreshes-I guess they're trying to milk the step-up programs.

In the last 12 months-

Mid range: 8800GTS to 8800GTS more stream processors to 8800GT followed by 8800GTS 512 then 9800GTX shortly after (for similar price) to 9800GTX+,
forgot the 9800GT

High end: 8800GTX and ultra to GTX260 to GTX260 core 216 (within a few months of each other), now GTX 270 and GTX290 to replace the GTX 260's and GTX290 after only 4 months.

Not to mention the endless amount of incremental overclocked versions.
I'm sure the GTX270 and 290 will be great cards though........

You forgot...between 880 GTX / Ultra and GTX 2xx Series...the 9800GX2!

Really, I've been purchasing nVidia for the last 4 yrs and it is the consumers responsibility to "stay-up" on the specifications of any or all Cards in which you're considering to purchase. If your going to dump between $350 - $550 on a GPU, ....research it!
I'm glad that nVidia is pumping out a wide variety of Cards for the simple reason it keeped ATI on thier toes, which in turn means more variety of mid to high end Cards @ more reasonable prices.
