Shanghai ?..come on now..what the ..? I'm glad for this..competition..keep things going..so Amd will have to release a new series of mobos that will support these new chipsets?..ive read the article but not found that answer..

From what I've heard, the Phenoms will be compatible w/ AM2+ and AM3 boards. The AM2+ boards will obviously require a BIOS update, which will be at the manufacturer's discretion. However, the Phenoms probably won't be out until at least Q1 2009.

As for the Opterons, not sure.

That's right Jmac, the AM3 CPUs will work with AM2+ boards, but the AM2+ CPUs will not work with AM3 boards due to new features. Still sounds pretty good to me.
