The Inquirer, relying on shakey sources as the often do, writes that the release date for the 8800GTX Ultra will be on Mayday, it will be single chip, and that it will cost about 900USD.

Sh!t that one got me thinking a bit...

How long until we see the first $1k+ graphics card? How long until people realise that that's an Xbox 360, a Wii, a Nintendo DS and a truck-load of games?
Used to have a lot of fun with my N64 or PS when i wasn't into computers... Now with all the problems we get when we try to play a recently released game with recently released graphic cards and add to this Drivers...etc...

Wow, single chip ?? curious... I was reading an article that was saying the 8800 ultra might be a dual gpu card.
I will see if I can find it again.

DailyTech - DailyTech Digest: GeForce 8800 Ultra
Overclock3D.Net :: Technology News :: Specifications Of GeForce 8800Ultra And GeForce 8950GX2

I dont know how reputable this info is but these two reports conflict

I wouldn't count on the Inquirer being right, but only time will tell.

Some more spewage from the Inquirer on the subject:

"A FEW MORE bits to add to the 8800 Ultra story. Word has it that the Ultra edition will use the same PCB as the GTX but with a modified cooler. NV is aiming at a 15-20 per cent bump in the benches.
The daftest part is that production is limited to tens of units, not tens of thousands. We hear tens, closer to zero than 100. If there are any left over after the press get theirs, they will go to boutique builders and similar low-volume places. There won't be enough to supply the big boys initially, if ever."
