Default Haswell E delided

Looks like Haswell-E uses an epoxy type of material to bind the chip. I think though that it is an indium solder there though.

With the TDP these things come in at I think they have little choice, add the pricetag and peeps would be choked with poor IHS interface. Still surprises me that they use TIM on mainstream chips...


I do agree that looks like indium or some liquid metal cocktail. Makes me happy. Hate having to toss your warranty just to get normal temps.

So could we use a heating with xacto blade to de-lid or are we stuck with vice grip and 2x4 method?

Nope. As you can see in the first picture the die got destroyed delidding it. It is essentially glued to the heatspreader via the TIM.
