Can't seem to find much about it.

What's the latest rumor release date?

Kaveri will be FM2+. It is an APU with HSA.

Steamroller(FX for desktop) will still use AM3+ but may very well launch with a new motherboard generation for "newer" features, AMD is quiet right now about this, but they have said many times over the last while that Bulldozer, Piledriver, Steamroller will be AM3+ and FM2 for the APU, Excavator and the APU with it will be getting a new socket possibly unified

I was tempted to grab a Gigabyte FXA am3+ $120 board so I could get on DDR3 but I'll wait it out and see what Steamroller FX does and if the boards series change to the better enough.

Patiently waiting for Q4.

I've always liked the AM3+ platform. This is one area where AMD, in my mind, exceeded Intel's Z68 and even Z77 platform. The 990FX chipset has roughly twice the PCI lanes, more SATA3 and USB3 bandwidth. There was scalability, too. If you wanted to budget and didn't need all the extra PCI lanes, well, you could choose from any lower options such as the 970 or the 990x chipsets.

I've always liked my AMD boards!

Their boards are generally more feature rich per $. In all honesty the lower performance in single threaded apps doesn't even bother me that much....it's the lower performance and higher power consumption combo that bothers me. APU are a somewhat different story and definitely have their place. I really hope steam roller can sort some of that out...but unfortunately I don't have high hopes(I would love to be wrong and be able to stick with amd in my next upgrade).

Steamroller is supposed to offer 25% more IPC than Piledriver in sigle threaded tasks if it is true what they say. I assume while keeping the same TDP.
