Interesting bit of info, don't know if anyone wants to try this?

If you truly needed a quadro then sure.. but why ruin a perfectly good card? :P

out of curiosity and just for something to try ( even though I don't fully understand) could this could be done to older cards

Not having done any of this, just from what is written older cards had a "hardware strap" that could be changed. So yes a different method but you could change the strap to claim to be something else.

Based off of the 690 mod, its not changing clock speed or any other physical attributes other then the card saying its a Quadro card vs a 690 to get the drivers to work through simple resistors.

couldnt somebody essentially just modifiy the drivers then if its only basing it off the hardware id

don't think it works 100% that way steph i know u could soft quadro cards back in the days but then they closed that loophole which then required bios mods to soft them over so i dont think changing the hardware id in drivers will do it since the card reports what it is to drivers (but never say never)
