I don't think the GK104 was supposed to be the top chip ,but it came out so good and fast and was faster then AMD HD-7970 when it came out .Nvidia has no reason to make the top dog chip with a 384 bit-buss and extra shaders, since ATI/AMD had nothing to counter the GTX-680,It was plenty fast enough and a lot more effcient.Plus there are already so many fast chips out that will play most games just fine. Now they came make it for next year and call it a GTX-780 amd sell it for $599.I do hope they double the memory to 4gigs,even if not really needed in most games.I would really like to see AMD knock one out of the park.Makeing it more efficient with there HD-8970 .I would like to see it be around 20% faster then the new GTX-780 so maybe the prices would go down. But I doubt that will happen since the Kepler chip is so good.

A 40-55% performance increase....would be a card I would upgrade to. But I have to wonder if they would give us that much of an increase if they had it.

Wouldn't they prefer to feed us slower performance increases of say....13%.....15% or 20% to maximize profit margins?

Its things like this that make me both happy and a bit sad. I like to see technology progress, but I just bought my first nVidia card in years (one 680) and looking to buy my second soon. I guess for me, I have the performance I need and want, but there's always the feeling of having the latest and greatest thing that is so alluring. Damn marketing teams are drooling over fools like me.

They would but that is the beauty of competition, if your opponent brings out something wicked you have to follow suit or be left behind.

They will probbaly wait until AMD comes out with there new card and then make one that is around 20% faster even if they have one that could be over 50% faster. They want to squeeze ever dollar out of a person they can .but we don't have to buy them. But most enthusiast like haveing the new and best toys around.

I'm going to get two of them. If drivers alone can give you a 10% increase,it's possible the 700 series really CAN give a 50% increase. I'm thinking positive. If all the info is true,Radeon is in trouble.
