The lack of improvements kind of want me to keep my archaic platform for just one more generation... I'll probably wait for overclocking results first lol.

Still no dual core k series? That kinda blows, I wish the i3 2120k was real.

ME neither... i7 3770K for me i think... tho also considering i7 3820. it looks like a beast of a CPU and overclocks to 4.6GHz+ even though multi is locked.

I could see replacing my i5-2500k with a i7-3770k mainly for HT if the price is right.

I'm holding on to my current rig until spring when IB is released. Then i'll be looking at a complete upgrade. Still haven't decided on IB or an x79 based system because i've debating getting into folding. I'd like to see some performance numbers before i make the leap

I don't think its going to be much of a change from SB in performance for a few reasons.

1) SB-E is only faster than SB in highly threaded or memory hogging programs (can't have IB going and ruining their high profit margin CPUs)
2) Intel has already said they will be focusing on reducing power consumption with IB.
3) There is no real competition for SB (let alone IB) that would need them to have a large jump in performance).

I am betting on slightly greater than SB performance with lower power consumption. Its win win, but I don't think you will see too many people jumping on the IB bandwagon who already have high end SB CPU.

I havent really paid much attention as of recently for whats been goin on with intel. With IB will there be any processors with more than 4 cores or are 4+ core processors reserved for the 2011 platform?

Yes, it looks like 2011 is reserved for the 4+ cores, I doubt we will see any 6 core processors in mainstream consumer chips (Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge)until more software can take full advantage.

I was reading originally SB-E was designed as 8 core, however the initial launch lineup consisted of 6 core variants, with 2 cores disabled.
If rumours are true recently, we could see an appearance of a 10 core with IB-E sometime in 2013. (just imagining what those cpu's could fold like *drool*)
