Yes, it looks like 2011 is reserved for the 4+ cores, I doubt we will see any 6 core processors in mainstream consumer chips (Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge)until more software can take full advantage.
I was reading originally SB-E was designed as 8 core, however the initial launch lineup consisted of 6 core variants, with 2 cores disabled.
If rumours are true recently, we could see an appearance of a 10 core with IB-E sometime in 2013. (just imagining what those cpu's could fold like *drool*)
