Default 9800 GX2 clock speeds and oc

This is from the Inquirer and they don't explicitely say where they got these results from as it would break NDA- The clock speeds are nothing too exciting and the according to them, the overclocking potential is disappointing. Might be a good opportunity for ATI to make some headway with the r780.

WE JUST GOT hard measured numbers on the Nvidia 9800GX2. There has been a lot of speculation on clocks and speeds, so here is what the one we have access to did.
The stock speeds will be 600/1000/1500MHz for core, memory and pixel shaders, but they OC a bit beyond that. With the broken OS, 64-bit edition, and an Intel quad, they score 14,4xx in 3DMark06 at default settings.
You can crank up the core frequency, but at least on the ones we have access too, memory goes all of a pittance higher, and shaders don't budge at all. If you push it as hard as you can go, you can just break 16K on 3DMark06.
With RS770/R780 on the near horizon, I would feel mighty twitchy right now if I was NV. µ

This is not really surprising considering how much the original GX2's struggled to OC from heat issues. Atleast those cards were easily spaced with the Swiftech spacer kit and you could vastly improve cooling and boost overclocking. These 9800GX2's look like they will not be easily spaced and I personally think this card looks quite disappointing and very expensive. I've been thinking for some time that Nvidia had nothing special in the wings and it sure looks that way.

Does that not seem low speeds, like to just get over 14K 3D06 on stock speeds. Heck I make 12K 3D06 on my rig. I figured it would get at least 18K or more.
Mind you I do not believe much of what the Inquirer saying.
I will wait to see score's when SKY does some reviews on it.

There's a water block in the works and it looks like it will be over 200 bucks- the onepictured has evga on it so looks like a black pearl version in the works. I would guess that this baby will create some good overclocking leeway- imagine quad sli watercooled gx2s

TechConnect Magazine - Innovatek has GeForce 9800 GX2 waterblock

You would think that, but when you take one already massively overpriced card and add an even more massively overpriced waterblock you won't get the results. This is playing out like the original GX2. I wonder if they are going to even bother trying to get Quad SLI working this time round. I sure hope I am dead wrong. I'll happily eat my words.

Hexus apparently has one and says it is around the speed of 2 8800 GTS 512mb in SLI.

The 9800 GX2 might come out tomorrow! Hexus and the guy at Tigerdirect tv have hinted about that.

Is that faster than an ultra??? personally I'd like to see benchmarks based on the latest most demanding games rather than 3dmark. Not sure it reflects performance in more recent games at resolutions at and over 1600*1080.

Id really like to see what the new GTX does-could be a fair bit better than the ultra without the driver hassle of the GX2. I doubt ATI will be able to release a card this year that can compete with the 9800GTX in terms of gaming (not benchmark scores).

You'll have to forgive me for not believing anyone's quotes about speeds right now. Until there are real numbers posted with verifiable proof then it is pure hearsay. Again, this is the same talk about the old GX2 and yet it is being faithfully being repeated again. One thing I just cannot get past is the high price too. Hard to see how it will be worth buying a GX2 when you can get 2 8800GTS's for the same or less.

As for ATI releasing a faster card, I don't believe they are even trying to. In fact, last I heard it was Q1 2008 that ATI was releasing their next powerhouse.

That's why it's in the rumor section, b1lk1- we're just speculating
