My System Specs

Default GDDR4 66% faster than GDDR3??

......according to samsung in this little article from the Enquirer, yes, but we'll see.

"SAMSUNG SAID the next generation of its graphics memory - GDDR4 - can slosh data around 66 per cent faster than existing chips.
The 80 nanometre 4Gb/s memory. made in 512Mb densities, will start sampling this month. Samsung said the graphics chip and card makers are having spasms of rapture at the memory type.
Samsung itself is in seventh heaven as it reckons GDDR4 will increase demand for high performing graphics memory in the next year to 18 months. "

The X1950XTX already has GDDR4 so the most likely thing is that the upper-echelon R600 series will have it too. If the R600 takes the plunge, expect the 8900 series to do so as well.

Ah, I understand. Personally, I think that while the X1950XTX had high-speed GDDR4 the core did not have the raw processing power needed to take full advantage of the extra memory bandwidth GDDR4 provided. That is why the 8800-series are able to do so well with "lesser" GDDR3. In the case of the 8900-series and the R600, GDDR4 will be needed with the introduction of more powerful cores.

It really depends on the games . Games like Supreme Commander and Company of Heroes are extremely CPU limited due to the unit AI and other calculations while games like X3 and Fear are extremely GPU-dependant.

Therefore, a card like the X1950XTX may be the bottleneck in some games while not the others.
