Default 3870X2 vs 9800GX2

Just wondering what everyone thinks about the dual GPU video cards. The Radeon 3870X2 is coming on the 28th, delayed because of driver issues. Hopefully Crysis will work better with the newer drivers, because it's THE video card benchmark as even the fastest cards can't run it on the highest settings. Apparently ATI is fixing the performance for Crysis and maybe other games.

The GeForce 9800GX2 (8900GX2?) coming out February AFAIK. Most likely the 9800GX2 will be faster, depending on the drivers, but more expensive. It will be nVidia's high end card for a while.

So - what think ye?

GOing buy the price of the 8800gtx or what ever they are called for over 700.00 i would imagine that the 9800 cards would be the price of a lower to cheap parted medium priced computer

I foresee the 9800GX2 vs. HD3870X2 being just be another 8800GT vs. HD3780 battle however. The availability of the 9800GX2 will be low just like when the 8800GT was first released and DAAMIT will gain from this since as the HD3870X2 will be more readily available like the HD3780 was and the price of the HD3870X2 will be lower than the 9800GX2 just like how the HD3870 was lower than the 8800gt; blah blah blah. As for performance the HD3870X2/9800GX2 should be quite similar to 2xHD3870/2x8800GTS cards in Crossfire/SLI.

Well that is what people thought when the 7950 X2 card came out.

Given what we know about SLI and Crossfire scaling the OP's hypothesis on speed at this point don't fly in my opinion. To add to it, no one seems to be struggling getting 3870 cores into some pretty phenomenal OC's with a little tweaking. Let's put it in perspective though, I personally can't tell the difference between the 5-10 per cent that seems to separate cards these days so I think the primary argument will be as werty says in his post - one of price and availability with each fanboy camp sticking to themselves.

Crysis is one of the most over-hyped pieces of crap to ever disgrace the gaming scene. It is so poorly optimised that there is no way it should be considered the definitive gaming benchmark. The fact that even 8800ultra SLI can't play it smoothly is ridiculous. The game is not that good that it should be basically unplayable by current high end PC's. It doesn't even run multiple core CPU's properly like it is stated it can. The game is a joke, period.

, I do agree though I tried Crysis it wasn't that great at least it didn't live up to all the hype. the funny thing about gaming is that a game will come out with good graphics and people will buy the game but because there system can't handle it ( especially if playing online) that they have to play with the config like the gammas and what not in order to be competitive with other players, which in turn takes away some of the enjoyment of the game.

Man, B1lk1, I totally disagree. I think I have had more fun playing Crysis than any other game, ever. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is amazing, it is such an enveloping game. The 32" screen I play on may enhance the feeling, but it runs so smooth for me (once I tweaked the settings) and looks stunning. I have not touched the multiplayer, as that is not why I bought the game.
