Rumor: GTX 590 has downclocked 580 cores Here's the link, for those who are interested. Basically saying that the core speeds will be dropped down to 600mhz core and 3400mhz memory from the default 772/4008. Not sure if it's a reliable source though... |
on water there should be no issues, or with custom triple slot coolers from the different partners will the circuitry on the pcb take gtx580 frequencies? that is the question. the evga hydro version should be interesting, to say the least |
580's run less hot than 6970's, so I don't see any problems with a pretty standard cooler. |
That downclock is acceptable to me, I won't overclock or anything. |
I've got two issues with the 590... It should easily beat the 6990 if it uses a TDP of 375w, but SLI 580s at those specs don't really push the limits of the 6990 hard enough to make the 590 a clear winner (which it should be as the 580 has a lower TDP than the 6970 and better performance). The second issue is how they are going to price this card as they won't want to be too aggressive against the pricing of the 580 SLI, but need to be competitive with $700 MSRP. Will they just have very low stock of the 590 to ensure people keep buying 580s? |

GeForce GTX 590 Key Features Revealed | techPowerUp More info, the 590 will cost more than the 6990 for sure. |
3gb of ram probably means 2x580 cores. I'm glad Nvidia didn't use a blower fan like AMD did, I've been considering one for a folding box and a blower would be way too loud. You're exhausting inside the case anyhow, blower fans are a stupid idea. |
from the slide thingie that one will output in the case as well. fail on both parts /;p |
If this is true then it is a pretty substantial drop in performance per core compared to a full out 580. We seem to be reaching the current thermal/power limits of single graphics cards with the 6990 and "gtx 590". I think we need a die shrink or 2 to get power consumption back in check (not that some of you care at all). |
