+1 for better design that doesn't use 450w and produce 90C temps. Still, the die shrink to 24nm (or whatever it is) is due out in Q4 of this year and promises to bring huge performance increases and lower power draw/thermals.

We will probably see some new 28 nm GPU by fall or early winter.

the gpu industry is skipping a node 45nm to 28nm it will give MFG a lot more headroom to play with. 45nm is maxed out right now, a card like the gtx580 is godness on 45nm.

40nm, not 45nm.

6970 CF vs 580 SLI
Bench - GPU11 - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News
Probably gonna be same results with the 6990 and 590.

My 580 has never crossed the 80C mark. Neither in gaming nor benchmarking.
AND I really tend to believe to SKY's temp charts because he always tests the cards on the same test bench, unlike other reviewers who change their system components like every couple of days.

yeah 40nm lol

so 590 specs are in, still nothing confirmed tho. I can't see nvidia releasing a slower top card than AMD but time will tell.

Codename: D13U-50 GF110/P1020
CUDA Cores: 1024
Graphics Clock: 612MHz
Processor Clock: 1224MHz
Memory Clock: 3420MHz
Memory Interface Width: 2 x 384-bit
Memory Config: 3GB GDDR5
Power Connectors : Dual 8-pin
Dimensions: 11" x 4.5", Dual Slot

it looks like nvidia struggled staying in the tdp limit with those clocks
