Hey,

(H)ardOCP got a Hd6990 and it's just a PREVIEW...a teaser basically, but at least there is a little more REAL and less vaporware...

nice. so should we expect 'stock' clocks around 750mhz on both cores on the final
produce? :)

Theoretically, will the TDP envelop limit the overclock on a card like this, assuming heat isn't an issue?

It's looking to be March 8th for the 6990, as far as I've seen. As for the 590, it's looking to be planned for release around March 11th, where it will be showcased in PAX.

But again, I'm not too sure.

i wonder what the difference will be in those few days inbetween.

cf 69x0 is solid, as is sli...what was it 580 or 570 for nvidia's card?
if its 580's then ill have my lunch money on the latter :p

and it consumes a maximum of 375W (37W during idle)
The max TDP is also elevated to 450W, but idle draw remains the same.
The Radeon HD 6990 receives power via two 8-pin PCIe

<--- I call bullcrap on that link above me. The facts just don't line up with reality!

Just how oh how do you supply 450w with only two 8 pin connectors?

Well, the PCI-E slot provides 75 watts.

ALSO, I wonder if you NEED to use one of those motherboards that have extra power connectors close to the PCI-E slots to feed the extra juice??? ( you know like the big bang marshall)
