Considering the huge premium you pay to get the 'top of the line,' I think it's just wishful thinking when people say $600... We all know (somewhere hidden in our conscious) that we'll be paying a nice markup... Look at the 580 = ~40% price markup for ~18% performance increase over a 570. I'd expect the 6990 to be priced the same as dual 6970s or more.

im wondering what card can nv muster so itll change prices globally...its got to be a top dog or so.

but then again it would be killing 580 sales if it was close, so its got to be either a great bang per buck unit

or some kinda monster the likes of a dual gpu but on a single die or something ;) wink wink :D

Huh? We already have that. Take a look at any of the current high end GPU architectures. They usually have dual processing engines linked via a common crossbar.

think of a 6990 as a pentium d, two cores 'glued' together on a pcb.

now think of a modern dual, quad,or hex core and so on as the next best thing..

Huh? Dan, the modern GPU already has many Cuda cores or SIMD's or ROPs or whatever they want to call them. They are already massively multi-core. That's why they are such good numbercrunchers for things like Folding @ Home.

i know but think of any core on any modern card as just that, a core, a unit. drop a couple on the same die. itll be big, bad, and will want more juice, but it
will be one unit. this if they cant come up with a bigger starting unit to begin with, but like for dozer, they went for smaller ones to keep up with efficiency,
or so the guy in the one vid said
