I dunno. I generally prefer nvidia products, but I think that both recent and long term history shows that they're willing to push thermal, acoustic and power consumption envelopes in order to retain performance crowns and/or remain competitive in at least one case (FX series).

I don't think it's fair to compare the power consumption of a dual GPU card to one with a single GPU. Really, that an AMD dual GPU card has power consumption comparable to a single nvidia GPU card says a lot.

The power consumption of video cards might not matter around here, but I think it's an issue for most users.

That's not to say I think AMD based products are better overall, but they certainly have power consumption in their favour, in addition to being extremely competitive at most price points.

as per rj's post, it will be juicy to perform as dood or near the 580. with current tech, rather to keep prices sane, they probably cant do too much.

of course they could probably come up with a 150 watt gtx 580 gpu power wise, but the cost of the parts would be astronomical

I wouldn't be surprised to see AMD release something that runs cooler, uses less power and performs the same. They seem to be better off lately. Then again, maybe they won't use a Vapor chamber and it'll be a hot sucker :P We'll know in a few weeks.

^^^^ We shall see, but with the performance / power consumption / heat and cost of the 580.....ATI is really going to have thier work cut-out to try equal nv's flagship right now.......who knows.....it sure is fun though ;)

Thats the 6990 dual gpu though. That said, 3840 processors, that means 1920 on the 6970.

crap, wrong thread. yes. was thinking it would be between 1600 and 1900. but it seems they went ahead with a different configuration, and its become apple to mandarins when compared to the 68xx series? :)

also if you divide 300 watts by half, 150 watts at full 3d load is kinda small of a value....hmm...

again, one must wait for a retail product. some of you got es 68 series with 1120 shaders and though god had landed? nope, those were just a few ' mistakes' .

Interesting. Heck, the 480 slaps the 580,hehe. These tidbits of info are useless until proven, as SKY said.
