The third slide is the most amazing to me. With fewer shaders, a much smaller die size, and lower memory bandwidth AMD is able to offer greater performance. The 6XXX is much more than small core tweaks.

Many of the leak sources claim that the die size of Cayman is going to be very similiar to Fermi (529mm^2) with similiar thermals. With a die size of around 500mm^2 it is highly likely that Cayman will have nearly 2000 of these high optimized shaders (twice the 6870 specs). Simply put, that's one hell of a beast.

Just my $.02.

I believe the reason these two GPU's were compared is because they had the closest die size and the efficiency of the new core is what they were trying to display.

The HD6850 vs GTX 460 768MB is an accurate comparison as they are going to be in the same price bracket. The GTX 460 1GB goes up against the HD6870. A comparison slide of those two cards would have been nice as well.

Take the performance slides with a grain of salt...they were prepared by AMD's marketing department. I'm sure they reflect best case scenario.

Yep the bar graphs are pretty funny to see. The thread I linked to has some more info on tesselation performance improvements, etc. I won't comment on that too much, as I don't know a heck of a lot about gaming performance as it is.

right. i usually don't trust marketing stuff. but when they say 3 times as powerful, its probably 25-50 percent better, when regarding to the competition.

if the spilt milk holds some cheese to it, then the 6870 is more overpriced than i thought it would be. i.e. 6850 169.99 6870 199.99 in order to kill gtx 460 sales at launch
