+1. I'm running @ 2560X1600 and there's a few games that I can't max out with my dual 4870x2's. The 6970 looks promising actually.

I reckon the 5 series delivered, each card was a huge upgrade on its previous series equivalent :)

As am I...except I'm using two 5870's. I'm looking toward the 6000 series as a nice upgrade.

From my understanding you'll be waiting for awhile for any of the 6xxx cards to outperform that setup and frankly it doesn't make much sense to upgrade, until the 28nm cards come out.

I got a XFX HD5770 for $135 after MIR last week. It's at $129 this week's sale after MIR
A XFX HD5670 for $59 after MIR

They got XFX Hd 5830 for $179 after MIR, a HD5850 for $259 after 15$ MIR, HD5870 for $369 gain with MIR and more...all prices from NCIX's sale

It's quite obvious that they are preparing for what's coming next.
Actually, the exact price of the XFX HD5830 would be $189.99 * 1.13 (taxes) - $20 MIR = $194.69. Sale is "over" tomorrow, and it's "sold-out", as I got the last one. But, like I mentioned in my other threads, I didn't open yet, cuz I'm debating whether I should wait till the HD6*** bad boys arrive, hoping it'll drive down the HD58** prices some more.

I doubt it'll drive the prices down even more, as I don't foresee a 5830 being cheaper than it already is; and furthermore, even if 5850s come down in price, it'll still be nowhere near sub $200. Anyway, I dunno if the HD67** will live up to it's hype. Afterall, the HD5770 was supposed to be all that (I'm not saying it ain't), but the HD4890 could beat the snot out of it, right?

I've seen a 5850 go for $240 after MIR & IR so we're actually not that far off from the $200 range. It probably won't go down that much immediately following the 6xxx release but over time it definitely will.

It would be very unwise to purchase any AMD card right now IMHO, even from BST. The 6xxx is literally around the corner and even if availability is poor at first, retail/BST prices of the 5xxx cards is definitely going to come down ... how much exactly? Probably not that much in retail but quite a bit in BST that's for sure.

I'm dying over here with my 4850 @ 1920x1200 lol. SC2 & BC2 run just at the edge of playable on high settings without any AA but skipping on the 5xxx was extremely hard and I came close to pulling the trigger on a used/sale price 5850 a few too many times but hopefully it'll pay off soon enough

if i had some unused 5 series cards, i wouldve gotten rid of them at least a month ago.

even with the rebadging, life will be a little bit more difficult for those wanting to upgrade and letting go of their belongings(5 series) for less than the week before :)

colonel, hpow much are you willing to spend to make that 1080p very playable? below 200, not super sure :p

If you're a dedicated gamer, its hard to get rid of perhaps the most important part of the PC a month or two for tech you know very little about. I'd rather just take a loss and stick with what I got until the end.

I'm not even bother getting a 5xxx card, even if it was a great price. I went through too many personal interventions not to buy a 5xxx card and not press that "proceed" button of a shopping cart lol.

I have to agree, although I did trade up an SLI pair of 250's for the 465 I have but that is it.
My AMD rig is still top tier for what --> I <--- play. And I think it was too soon even for a 400 series card for me, I had some driver issues I wasn't happy about. Same with my 5770 and 5830, I had driver issues as well that took a while to get resolved.

Sometimes its better to get the more mature versions later...sometimes..
