Crap, and I was gonna buy a 480 for my birthday coming up. Now the 6-series is coming out by Christmas...and worse yet; what will Nvidia have for February/March?
Code:
                    ---
                   ! !
                   ! !
                   ! !
                   ! !
               ----! !----
          ----! ! ! !

The 6000 series will be a highly tweaked revision of the 5000 series. Since they will be produced on the relatively mature 40nm process you can expect a hard launch with little in the way of supply shortages. The end result will be that the 6870 will be the most powerful single GPU solution available, and while at the present time there is no real competition for the 5970, the 6970 will only extend that lead.

Congrats to ATI. Nothing new (besides a possible 512 shader fermi) will be coming from nVidia until 2H 2011 when they make the 28nm conversion.

I'm not reading 6 series release out of this information. Think more along the lines of a 5 series refresh with slightly higher clocks. (although it's all guesswork at this point).

That's some pretty strong predictions.... I think I'll hold off until we see some real numbers and/or stock before declaring the green team back behind the 8 ball. :)

By "6-series" I was thinking along the same lines; regardless, I'm unsure how they're going to name the 5-series refresh, so it may very well be 6-series, name-wise. By "architecture refresh" I read something comparable to a driver update (a-la NV's 260.63) in hardware form. I'm still screwed because it's always about latest and greatest...

I think I'm gonna bite the bullet on a 480. As for the 28nm spec further down the road, Q2 2011 could mean up to June/July. Knowing how NV did business in regards to Fermi, I'm expecting the worst-case scenario, perhaps even Q3...

I'm thinking more something akin to the 3xxx series, a nice(and much needed in that case) refresh of the 2xxx series with many improvements and rearrangement of the various rop and shader units to better fit in line with usage.

I suspect they will use the 6xxx numbering scheme, and that it will be a nice refresh, more than the 4890 was to the 4870, but maybe not as nice as the 5870 was to 4870
