Default Confirmed: Evga to offer free high-flow bracket for GTX 470/480 owners!

Edit: Order your brackets here:
EVGA | Articles | EVGA GTX 470 High Flow Bracket

Pay shipping only if you have already registered your EVGA card.

Original post:
----------------------------------------------
Nothing official yet, so don't get too excited but if you are a current GTX 470/480 owner there may be a free* high flow bracket for owners:
EVGA to Give Existing 470/480 Users High Flow Brackets and Backplates for Free?!

Basically, there is a Bit-tech story that says it is possible that European owners may get a backplate and bracket.

On page 2 of that thread, project manager EVGA_JacobF had this to say:
Quote:
We are working on the brackets, for the backplate it likely will not be, sorry for the confusion.
*Not sure if the 'free' offer will be for Canada, and I suspect that folks will pay shipping.

Either way, might be a way for folks to shave a few degrees off their Evga Fermi cards.

Good customer service, heat/rma fears by Evga, or both?

Well, they do have amazing customer service. I needed to rma a couple cards, so first you have to submit a question to their tech support by email or call them. I did the email thing, got the autoresponse at 2150hrs. First answer at 2204 and the second at 2219hrs. Both said that they would submit an RMA, didn't need any further testing, since I had tried everything. First RMA approved at 2341 hrs., printed out the shipping label and boxed it up, then the long wait for a second approval. Took forever, 0158 hours. Can't beat that for service, two separate rma's from first contact to approval in a shade over four hours. All on a Friday night.

So, yes, I can see evga doing this, purely for the sake of customer service.

Hmm...don't think they'll give it out for free as it would cost them a lot of money (especially when they had to rely on their other products after a 1 year hiatus in selling video cards)...but in turn, that would earn them loyalty from all owners for the next iteration of cards in addition to word of mouth advertising for quite sometime.

Well they sold back plates before so they probably will sell them and not give them for free. I might buy 2 if they do sell them.

This sounds like good news, but if making the openings in the bracket larger improve the cooling by that much, why even have them there in the first place? Anyone game to take a dremmel to the grill of their 480/470? I know I would if i knew EVGA was sending out replacement brackets.

I bought a Zotac Fermi, they could make a quick buck off this if they sold it to non-EVGA Fermi owners.

I think that I remember that Evga sent HDMI adapters out to current owners after the 200 series launch because they were not available at launch.
