As I mentioned the drivers that were reportedly being used at the time were drivers that were of a lesser quality then the ones that will be shipping with the product from what I understand. I posted this as a glimpse of what to expect obviously like any sneak peek it must be taken with a grain of salt as many variables come into play as SKY has pointed out.

Wait until this upcoming summer people will RMA those 8800 GT coleman stoves like no tomorrow. The new Ati cards will use less power and run cooler then @ stock then the G92 options.

EDIT - These cards are being released alongside Phenom and Spider November 19, 2007 AFAIK. Correct me if I am mistaken.

Maybe...maybe not? My 7900GS hit over 80c under load with stock cooling. Then I put a better cooler on it and it hit 50c under load and was much quieter :D. I think I'll probably get similar results with the GT.

Unfortunately, I already know 3 people who have had to RMA their 8800GT cards and the trend seems to be increasing in the last few days. The single-slot cooler might LOOK good but it noew seems to be inadequate.

As far as I can tell it's not the cooler that's the issue, it's the memory itself that they used. If you can run rivatuner or something to set the fan speed you should not have any heat issues, depending on your case etc... Or even better buy a better one.

However, I was getting errors with the fan at 100%, case sides off and a 80mm Silenx pointing at it. The only thing that made the card work was underclocking the memory. And I can have the fan back to a normal noise level to. So my RMA is on the way. I just hope the memory is of the stock that are in those cards people are clocking memory to over 1000Mhz for benches ;)

Wow- this is the first I've heard about these GT issues- I gotta get me head outta me arse. I've been avoiding all the GT threads because I was bitterly jealous of all the people that got a supposedly awesome card that masde my 8800GTS obsolete for only 260 bucks ;-)

(quickly touches wood)

I'm more than happy with my 8800GT, even more so since I replaced the stock cooler with the Accelero S1. It also clocks fairly well while oc'ing (750 - 1635 - 1015), and is very stable. Looks like I got one from a good batch.

I wouldn't worry about it Babrbarossa(what the hell kind of moniker is that anyways? I have to check my spelling every time I type it...lol) 8800GT's have an abundance of issues which are now coming to the forefront. A piece of hardware cannot be so far advanced when it's in a box with a RMA ticket in being shipped to God knows where, now can it?

3.0Charlie: yeah you must be the lucky one...:)

Here's the VRZone review with more benches. Are these a little more in line with what you are talking about SKY? Looking forward to your review!

Really not bad and with better drivers who knows? And of course as the article states, with that price point it just might be the deciding factor for budget minded enthusiasts.

VR-Zone : Technology Beats - AMD Radeon HD3850 and HD3870 - AMD's salvation?

Didn't I tell you that there was a bit more to this card? The VR-Zone is pretty much in-line with my results but I have used new drivers that were just released....two days ago.
