Default what's next for ATI? (post 5970)

Any details or rumours?

I want to get a new computer in March 2010, and wondering what the top of the line will be then?

Slightly higher clocked versions of the HD 5970, Redwood and Cedar series of mainstream $99 and lower cards and a lot of waiting to see what NVIDIA has up their sleeves. ATI has pretty much shown their hand, now they wait.

Considering all of the issues TSMC has been seeing, I am going to predict we don't see an ATI refresh until late Q2 / early Q3 2010.

That is kind of disappointing...

Hopefully then the 5970 will have much better drivers and be slightly cheaper, thus giving more performance at less cost :-)

I don't see how the drivers would improve much in the games we tested. Those games have been out for months so hopefully ATI would have realized the best way to write drivers for those by now. Hopefully...

In newer games, sure.

I have been holding out on playing crysis until I had a computer that could run it on my 24" monitor with enthusiast settings... I guess that is unlikely... hopefully future games both look better and are coded better so that top of the line videocards can max them.

ATI won't launch a higher clocked 5970 IMO, they can clock them at 5870 specs but doing so would create a huge TDP. 2 5870's use close to 400w....
