ANd you are so sure about his needs? Maybe his needs reflect mine more than yours? Please.

Seriously this conversation is now way overboard. Let's get back on the subject, which is

Core i5 will replaced the entry level Core i7

Not rating another person current rig, and told him he just wasted some money.

I didn't rate anybody. I didn't even SEE his signature. I was simply going off what he said and they got their panties all tied in a knot.

You guys can keep duking this out.

Back on the subject, take this into PM.

I have my i7 2 rigs, and I'm quite happy with the performance they offer.

Would a 775 platform given me a similar performance? Probably. Do I care? Nope, not at all. You've made your point across that you are not pleased with the i7 platform even though you do not own one. And you think that i5 will be better.

How do you know that? Like you replied earlier, this is purely speculation from your part.

I take that suggestion...

There's no way i7 will be surpassed by i5...i5's lesser amt of cache ensures this. IMC makes this hit seem like less, but there's a reason E5200 is labelled as a pentium dualcore, and not a Core 2.

Unless someone has some other info in this regard? Maybe a 3.2ghz i5 might match a 920 @ 2.66ghz...and that's a big might, for me.

Yeah guys don't necessarily feel bad about your purchase. You probably have more than enough performance to run your rig for a couple years. Windows 7 is going nowhere and we've yet to see mainstream multi-core software.

I, for one, feel absolutely great I bought i7. From an E6600 to an i7 was a huge jump. Don't feel bad guys. In two years you'll probably want to get another i7 chip.

I don't feel bad at all... sure I could have saved maybe a couple hundred dollars on a quad build, but i7 is new... i7 is fun... i7 is what I wanted.
A lot of software I work with begs for multicore so this is great for now.

Core i7 is far from being a failure. It's just like the Core2Duo. You had the E6600 and E6800 for a while, then came other variant which were slower but much cheaper. Same thing is happening again, except they are re-branding it. So far all we know is i5 will have a different socket and will use Dual Channel HENCE the new brand, Core i5. You don't want to confuse the consumer so you make TWO lineup and both of them are DIFFERENT.
