Well when they say worse, I think they mean slower than the i7 920. What I think, is Core i5 will be on par with the 920 even better, BUT, the i7 will have new CPU and thus a larger performance gap. Also, you will be able to just upgrade your CPU afterwards.

Also, you can always say you have Triple Channel and others don't

On a side note, anyone notice how awesome Core i5 sound

Core "High Five"

Or perhaps they want to fine tune it and get all the bugs worked out so that when its launched it'll be a good launch.

Perhaps I'm being a little cranky... I haven't slept yet.

Anyway, if the i5 is cheaper that's ok... if it's better, that's ok too...
What can I do, really? I needed a computer and I had the money... figured I'd go in this direction.
Before this I had to share a crappy computer with my gf and I wanted something new.

For what I use the machine for this thing is awesome.
Gaming really is the last thing I do... when I'm bored of working.

Perhaps they will exceed performance of the i7 but only the lower end chips like the 920

So if I have the i5 equiv of a 920 and someone has a i7 920 and the i5 equiv performs better than the i7 who has spend the money more carefully?
True, this might even be a repeat of the old trend we saw where you could buy budget chips and OC them till they sang. But either way it rolls, it doesn't really matter if each person is happy with their machine, I spent some cash but it will likely last me through for a good 2 years or so without needing any significant upgrades. Did the same thing with my old machine, bought a Q6600 when everyone thought that it was needlessly powerful(right at the time of the pricedrop) and it lasted for 1.5 years and still performed admirably.

Without getting into details you could have probably bought into a 775 platform and been just as happy for less money.

Oh I'm aware and it happens every time which is what separates the antsy people. ;)

Perhaps some of this might have to do with the fact Intel wanted too much for 965... even the 940. Now they have to figure out a way to sell them all so they put out a chip to 'compete' with the 920. Guess time will show what really comes out of all this. I may keep the i5 in mind for my gf... or me if it really is better

Doubtful. For me, even QX9650 wasn't enough, and I had a stellar chip. i7 doesn't fully meet those needs either, but neither does AMDs products. So I'm all for the cheaper option until I can get what my needs require.

Your comments are pretty brazen, assuming alot here.
