Ok... whatever.
Again, I don't feel bad, but I take offense to your comments.

Personally, I don't feel bad. I put together this build for around $2000CAD (including the gtx275 I just ordered, and a few small items not in my sig).
That doesn't seem like an unreasonable amount of money to me for a system like this.
From what I understood from past comment from Intel, i5 will NOT exceed i7 in performance, so yes, that cost is more than justified. IN the end, the same from AMD would only be a few hundred less, and the performance loss would match that expense loss.

However, part of the reason AMD can afford to sell theirs for cheaper is partly due to AM3/AM2+ sharing alot of functionality, including AM3 cpus working in AM2+ boards. This wide product line allows for more sales, and thereby lower cost, but in the end, that also affects binning...lesser grade cpus aren't gonna clock like the high-end ones do, while on Intel's platform, the differences between the low-end and high-end, frequency-wise, is very small.

So in the end, your extra cash probably also got you better silicon too.

Hey, do you know how much cost my previous rig (well more like an updated version of my current machine).

2130$ after 200$ of MIR.

I bought a 8800GTX for 659.99$ after 70$ MIR just to tell you how I wanted to make my rig "future proof". I ended selling it for 100$, 2 years after. Also, more variant of the Core2Duo came, including the very good Wolfdale (which was 20% faster than my E6600).

When I finished College, I just wanted a kick ass machine, and I got it for a price though. Luckily, Bank are more than happy to loan you 2000$

All speculation at this point as nobody really knows what the i5 can do or can't do.

Perhaps they will exceed performance of the i7 but only the lower end chips like the 920

So if I have the i5 equiv of a 920 and someone has a i7 920 and the i5 equiv performs better than the i7 who has spend the money more carefully?

So if I was able to put together a decent i7 build that overclocks well for $2000CAD... how is that bad?

**edit**
That includes all parts... case... OS... monitor... wacom tablet... keyboard + mouse...

Nobody is saying its bad sheesh.

But when i5 is released and you can buy the same performance you have now for less money how would you feel knowing that you spent MORE early when you could have waited and spent less?

I mean for most part i7 doesn't give THAT much performance increase for most tasks including gaming especially since you run a single GPU.

If i5 is worse than i7, it means i5 is a waste of time. That's bad news for Intel, given Phenom2 price and performance.

Didn't I read some news lately about i5 being delayed a bit? I wonder why?
