Same thing happened with the Core2Duo. I remember I waited a long time before buying my E6600. The prices were around 400$ but then they got their first price drop and I grabbed the CPU for 230$.

So yeah, I'm waiting a bit to upgrade my computer. I learned that a long time ago.

There's no need to make people feel bad about their systems... that just sucks!
I'm happy with my i7, and I don't have to wait until i5, so why try to ruin it?

i7 itself isn't a bad product. It's more than enough for basically any use out there...and it's the fastest single part right now too. IN that regard, for ultimate performance, i7 holds the crown, and will for some time, IMHO. It just won't have alot of skus within it's platform, and in this way is limted, which may not be a bad thing.

3 cpu sku, for a limited platform, is more than enough. If this says that we get 3 faster cpus for the same cost as current, this is a good move...

...and so will 99% of others that eventually sell their i7 parts and get little to nothing for it after the i5 is released.

I don't think they will phased out their Core i7 series, I think they will make it more expensive by slashing low end CPU. By doing that, you make the Core i5 more appealing and, like everyone said, mainstream.

So far, this is the only website saying that they will remove the lineup from their series, so I wouldn't count only on that website.

They will more than likely phase out the lower end i7s and release higher end ones and then let i5 take up the slack of lower end processors.

No matter what happens I don't see the need to try and make others feel bad/stupid.
Personally, I don't feel bad. I put together this build for around $2000CAD (including the gtx275 I just ordered, plus a few small items and a monitor not in my sig).
That doesn't seem like an unreasonable amount of money to me for a system like this.
