Technology seems to be slowing down these days, they increase performance by 30-40% and keep charging you a premium like they used to in the old days, when new parts meant double the performance. I'd go for the new build when they have 8-16 core Nehalems or new architecture, just so it feels more worth it.

Nehalem IS new architecture.

I'm maintaining a minimum list of features for my next build:

- USB 3.0
- PCI-E 3.0
- DDR3 32GB modules
- SATA III
- bluetooth 3.0
- directX 11
- faster SSD than currently available

I theorize that ATI might be releasing something new soon, it looks like they've pretty much maxed out the potential of their 4000 series and as such will be looking towards developing a new architecture. If ATI do release something, you can probably count on NVIDIA competing against them with a new series too, although judging from previous experience, its just gonna be the same technology with a few modifications and a much more competitive price.
Personally, im wating till the end of the year to see what happens, then im finally upgrading from my ancient 7600
