Here's another gem: he says that the 2900XT will run at 100C, and that "A chap informed us that after the card was powered down for two minutes he still couldn't touch the back of the cooler"

Well if that's the case, CSA won't allow it to be sold in Canada.

I know it's not an unheard of temp, but this guy seems to be on a subsidized mission to bring down the r600.

Oy!!!

I was going to bring that up but without the actual cards on the market it MAY still be true.

Let us look at that in a more realistic light: From photos of the HD 2900XT we can see that the exterior of the cooler is COMPLETELY made out of plastic. The 8800GTX cooler is metal and plastic on the outside and yes, the metal gets too hot to touch.

Now, metal gets that hot because it can CONDUCT heat much better than plastic, thus ittakes much higher temperatures for it to melt. On the other hand, plastic (even the high strength stuff) does not conduct heat very well and it is because of this that it melts when it reaches a certain temperature.

Thus, IF the plastic got that hot on the outside it would be at or past its melting point.

FINALLY, it has been reported (in the OCUK forums) from someone PROVEN to have an R600 that the temperature readings in the newest CCC are not working.

Looks like we might have some doctored documents on our hands boys!!!!

Check it out:

Fudzilla - R600 minimal requirements pictured

Anyone else seeing the horrible grammar and complete lack of knowledge pertaining to PSU connectors on an "official" AMD document??????

Looks very fishy to me...

I read most of the news sites daily. Dailytech is my first click followed by techpowerup. I only read INQ or Fuad's site if I am really bored.. :D

Well, looks like they proved THEMSELVES wrong:

HD 2900XT works on a 500W PSU:
Fudzilla - Radeon HD 2900XT works at 500W, tested

Aaaaaaaannnnd, looks like they are measuring 82*C...in the oddest location though....

Fudzilla - Radeon HD 2900XT heats up to 82 degrees C

Its hard to read through some of the 'information' they post. Use a big missleading title (Inquirer) to draw as many hits as possible.

I started reading an article from The Tech Report about an upcoming HD2950xtx on a R650 core and came to "according to Fudzilla" which ended any further interest in the article. Very dissapointed in Tech Report.

Nearly ALL of the things Fudzilla have stated about the HD 2900XT are false and have been proven so with the reviews released today.
