IBM Patent Trolling Like a Boss
IBM Files the Patent Troll Patent - Slashdot
"It's all or nothing over at IBM as the company goes for the gold and files the patent troll patent. Forget the Hyperlink patent or the POS shutdown patent, IBM wants the patent patent. Its idea is centered around an approach to managing patents from inventor training to filing and protection strategies, including competitive monitoring. At least in theory, IBM could get approval to own the idea of how to manage patents and make a business out of IP. The next time you file a patent, you may want to contact them as you may need a license to file for filing."
I don't even know what I'll do if this happens.
At first I thought they were filing this to force changes in the way the current patent system works, but it now seems to me that this is a legitimate filing.
This is why I feel patents should be limited to devices, and not software or "ideas". If you're first to market with a device, you get the patent.
I'm hoping that is what IBM is getting at but somehow I don't think that's what they are trying to prove.
Geez when did Apple buy IBM?
I wonder if this will be one of those selectively enforced patents -- IBM uses it to defend itself against patent trolls.
The patent system in the US has been broken for years. Look at some of the stupid patents and you'll see. The worst part is that many patents cover things that are super generic or a process that is not really unique to the company applying for the patent. Hell someone owns a patent for having to push a button to take a picture with a camera... they don't have a patent on a design of button but just the idea to use a button to take a photo... like WTF. There are many more crazy examples if you look.
