My System Specs

Default AMD X4 9850 B3 stepping

These are about $290 at NCIX right now and probably will go down quickly, (according to Legit Reviews, AMD lists the price at around 235 (perhaps this is per 1000) so slightly more than the q6600 for now- we'll see how it hashes out in the retail channels when the dust settles. They performed pretty well at stock- on a par with the q6600- their outstanding memory bandwidth didn't hurt. As for overclcoking, they sit at about 3GHz on air at max stable.

Mmmmmm, so tempting... but my budget is thin right now, so i'll probably wait to try and grab a 45nm Phenom (along with a full system upgrade) in Q4 this year. Huzzah!

Ditto... so tempting, but I think I can live without it until the 45's come out

I'm happy for AMD though, finally they have proved they aren't completely sauced and they can still make processors that work properly. It seems like they made it their goal to match the basic intel quad in performance, and they just achieved it. The main problem is that now it's as though they had wasted almost a whole year just getting the phenom working, so Intel is already at 45nm with no problems and they are pushing performance quickly.

AMD needs to forget about 65nm now, no more faster phenoms, they already have the 45nm prototypes done, they just need to make full the switch ASAP before they are completely left in the dust.

Drops in die size and energy consumption will sell more chips as long as they work, I can't imagine any more than .5% of intels total sales going to their 'extreme' products. I hate how they are comparing a $300 chip to a $1100 chip, whats that about, its like comparing the performance of a civic to a ferrari.

Thats great that they are getting back into the game. Looking forward to seeing some more benchmarks and refinements.

Hmmmmmm

The black version of this processor is what they should have been able to release originally.

The 3G OC limit they saw in the first review wouldn't have seemed low prior to the release of the G0 Q6600s, but now it would still need a decent savings over intel's offerings to bring AMD back into the "bang for bucks" territory they held prior to their long run as king of the hill with the A64s.

Honestly, if I didn't spend all my money foolishly on this QX9650, I'd be getting one of these CPU's just for the fun of it. Anyone want to trade their Phenom PC for a CPU? LOL!
