The problem with "cheap" NAND...is the write endurance blows chunks. HIGH PERFORMANCE Nand is down right durable compared to the garbage nand used in usb "thumb drives". IE its not speed thats the issue but durability.
Now IF you dont plan on doing many or even any writes beyond the first one...then a CF drive is perfect for your needs. MANY peeps use a CF drive for their homebrew NAS' OS drive as the nand write durability basically only has to be higher than 1...everything else goes on the HDDS in the raid array. Hell many peeps use usb drive instead of a CF for this type of setup. :)
