That TDP dropping with ivy bridge tells me that Intel is just enjoying the lack of performance that bulldozer offered and are keeping clocks lower than they could be to have low power consumption (rather than keep the same TDP and have a larger increase in performance). I expect a small improvement over SB, but with lower power consumption. Could be some massive OCing headroom if that is the case.

IIRC they are claiming 20 percent less power use AND 20% increase in performance. Even if that second part is bollocks.....drop a D14 or H80/h100 and Im with you and bet we will see some monster OC's.

Looks to be another nail in AMD Bulldozer's coffin. Damn shame. :(

One of the things they wanted to do with Ivy was reduce power consumption, so it looks like they suceeded there. Ivy is also supposed to have a configurable TDP with 3 levels in of it. I wonder what the low end of the scale is if that 77W is the max.

I forgot about the configurable TDP. Just speculation (obviously), but maybe the default setting will be the 77w (for a better reduction in power consumption) with selectable to 90w (same as current SB) for better performance. I read somewhere (so take it for what it's worth) that there will be a default setting, a reduced thermal setting, and a increased performance setting for the TDP (default plus one higher and one lower TDP). Just a thought. I am thinking that ivy bridge may be my time to update from my x3 710.
