Thats disgusting. If they want to stop from loosing market share and profit, they should be forced to innovate and cut prices to compete. Hopefully the crtc won't be swayed into regulating netflix forcing them to raise prices. Seems like our regulatory bodies are more for keeping corporate profits high, then keeping the best interests of consumers in mind.

Up theirs. 'Nuff said.

CRTC's motto: Can't compete? Let's regulate.

I hate this "Canadian content" crap.

If our stuff is so piss poor that no one wants to watch it then why are my tax dollars funding it?

Hey not all of it is terrible. I really like Corner Gas, even have all the episodes on my mediaportal.

Of course that is the only one that I can think of in recent years.

The CRTC should get Netflix to pay into the LPIF fund and that should be the end of it. I currently pay $1.70 on my rogers bill for the LPIF fee. So someone who pays $8 to netflix should pay around $0.15 for the LPIF. I think this would be fair practice. Then again, the big guys will then complain that their families are starving because Netflix is stealing all their profit

While I too am not a fan of having to pay for Canadian content, considering 99% of it crap, I do understand why it needs to exist. As mentioned, Netflix should just pay their share into the fund and be done with it. I hope it is based on the cost of the service though, as that would make their contribution relatively small in comparison to what people pay for Rogers or Bell.

I haven't had Cable/Satellite in a long time, and when I am back in Canada it will be internet access only. I'll have to evaluate if Netflix will support my TV habit, as I wouldn't mind paying their reasonable rates if they have what I want to watch. If not ... plenty of torrents out there, and newsgroup access is cheap.

Conservative majority = monopolized communications infrastructure. Just remember that when voting this coming election.
