Default Better explanation of AMD and 3D gaming...

Hi,

I found this informative article on 3D Gaming and the Proprietary solution from nVIDIA VS the open standard that AMD is working on...

It's probably been posted around here in one form or another, maybe not.

All in all, I'm not a fan of 3D, but I'm a fan information!

3D films and games with glasses from ATI before Christmas - DigitalVersus

It doesn't work as a clickable link for some reasons...

Quote from said article from DV:

If I already have an ATI card, will it be compatible with this technology or will I have to buy another card?

SP: It depends on how old your current card is. We have planned support on existing cards for the updated solution but that gets cut off at a certain line.

Which generations will be compatible?

TM: We definitely expect that the 5000s will be compatible and we expect that mid/high level 4000s will also be compatible. We don't know this for sure yet. We would not be interested in releasing a solution that would stutter or drop frames.

Being sarcastic lately Dan?

I have no time for 3D myself, but aren't we here to discuss computer hardware?

Sorry if I take you the wrong way, if that's the case...

not really. the fact that a company decides to support 'yesterday's products' with their upcoming software is quite nice, and not always heard of :)

Honestly,
I don't really know who's gonna end up winning, between "proprietary" and "open" standards.

nVIDIA: PhysX+ proprietary 3D+ TWIMTBP
or
AMD : Trying to push Open standards.

Interesting tho...

well it depends on adoption rate. think of it as hd-dvd vs bluray.

one side pushed more cash into it and won :)

TWIMTBP isn't a proprietary standard, it's a "reduced chance of having to go look for a hotfix patch on day 1 of a new game coming out" standard, and it's something that AMD needs to step their game up on. But as currently offered, Nvidia's other two standard's can go hang.

That aside, this article is dated July 22, has there been any further developments on this? Despite the impending launch next week, there still don't seem to be any rumours circulating regarding this.
