Damn, I don't care. As much as the "old farts" (no offense to you guys, just quoting what I've heard ) say "no need for the high-end high-spec brand-spanking-new hardware/you should only get what you need/get the best but keep it for a couple years" I can't help but look at this 580 and say I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT!

When I hear rumors and speculation and clashing opinions about any new tech, I always get a bit antsy. I agree - The deal is definitely (as most have been saying) keep your cool until you see something on the shelves. Make an educated choice, bide your time, wait till everyone has shown their cards. THEN GET THE ULTRA EPIC MEGA FREAKING AWESOME TOP-OF-THE-LINE WATT-SUCKING HEAT-PUMPING MACHINE!

And then when the GX2 version comes out, have a heart attack.

Just stumbled upon this tidbit of news from Fudzilla. Not really informative based on the actual performance of the product, but just same basic overview about its tesselation capabilities and heatsink.

Well, I'm an Old Fart and the only HW I've had for longer than 6 months is:
1. Chassis
2. Mobo
3. WD Black HD's
4. Intel SSD

Don't get me wrong, I'll likely replace both my 480's for 580's, BUT only if they DO run at least at the same noise / levels and Temps as the current 480's.....if they run louder / warmer than 480's I'll likely stay away for now. With that said we'll see next week !!

The primary reason I haven't jumped into WC is the frequency for which I change HW and when I don't change I get bored and do more cable management or swap out some Fans....again, would be a royal pita with a couple of Loops to deal with ....new WB's every few months for new GPU's would get very expensive.

[offtopic]
^ Well there's an old fart I can agree with! Okay, I should add: *as the old farts stereotypically say..."

I suppose new blocks every few months is part of what comes with W/Cing. I would imagine there's some enthusiasts who swap out their cards every 3 or so months, and of course have to buy new blocks for their setup. Regardless, there's nothing wrong with switching out hardware all the time

As for those videos... damn I want it even more. I'm don't care about fan noise/speed, but if I can crank the fan up and make it even cooler, that's a major plus. I dunno, I wish they would just call this the GTX 485 or something. I wish they would price it for the cost of a GTX 480 nowadays, then drop the 480 to someplace comfortable in between the 460/465/470 group and the high-end group. I wish they'd tweak the 465 to make it more worthwhile, and I wish they'd make a 475. I dunno why but sometimes it seems what is simple logic to us gets so...skewed when it comes to the GPU market.

Some people are upset that the GTX 580 is only 1.5 gb, when the upcoming 6970 is rumored to be 2gb.

Keep in mind that aside from bragging rights against the competion, available models / performance are all about filling a target market. Too many models, and/or lower end hardware which performs too well isn't good business.

If the 580 comes out as a true successor to the 480, you can be sure it'll be priced around the same, but that 480's will no longer be going out the door, and certainly not at a lower price.
