Why Not To Buy Intel? They're Limiting Overclocking

heh, cant really blame intel guys... how many of us only bought the i7 920 or 930 because it was stupid to pay hundreds of dollars more for a process or when 10 mins in the bios will net you the same speeds as the next 3 models up. Hell, you can oc most processors 600 -800 mhz without even adjusting the voltage.

And another thing. do we really need to overclock anymore? processors are so overpowered, even at stock clocks.

going to switch to AMD? yeah right.

with amd's 1090t i don't see how anyone would want to go with intel at this point :/
I o,ced my 1090t on air to 4ghz( this meant i had 6 cores running at 4ghz) this was my first oc also and was really straight forward..
one of my friends payed 700 bucks for a 4 core and is going to oc it to 4 ghz as well,
so i dont see where that 400 extra bucks is going.... not to say a medium board for intel price wise, would be a great ocing board for amd such as the asus crosshair 4 formula...(of which i have)
if someone wants to tel me why people must pay 400 extra bucks to buy an intel cpu, please tell me
i just think that 400 extra buck premium is for there brand name nothing much else that i see please correct this statement if im wrong...

Maybe people that buy intel chips simply like intel and as consumers, they have a choice when it comes to dumping hundreds of $$$$ on their hardware. Some consumers like intel, some don't.

Just got a thought. Maybe this is how Intel and AMD are settling their lawsuit. First Intel pays like 2 million dollars, then they limit the overclocking capabilities of their CPUs so AMD can regain some market share and profit.

That is extremely unlikely.

That doesn't make sense and I think it was actually 1.45billion. It would make more sense for intel to try and earn more money the next year and from their profit last quarter they've been doing quite well too. As much as all of us enthusiasts hate how intel's limiting overclocking its quite a smart move for them by pushing those who want the best hardware to get the more expensive stuff while the general public who won't care to get the mainstream 1155 parts. The only wrench in the bucket is if motherboard manufacturers manage to bypass the limitations which is highly unlikely (I hope they prove me wrong though).

Most people would NOT spend that much on a CPU anyway. Especially at the upper range, where the MHZ/$$$ becomes a farce....it really doesn't make sense to do that and fork $700 for a CPU when a $400 does the job (OCed). But don't get into comparing your 1090T at 4.0GHz and a high-end Intel CPU OCed to 4.0GHz...you're still getting more performance in MOST applications from that Intel at 4.0GHZ than your 1090T 4.0GHz and you know it.

No wonder why people are buying 1055T,1090T, i5 750, i7 860 and i7 920-930....because they sell for $200-350+ whatever aftermarket cooling...NOT like $700 for a few more MHZ (valid on the retail box)...

Unless you got for the 980X which is special, there is NO incentive to get a "upper echelon" CPU.

The AMD 1055T and 1090T are becoming really interesting (they were already anyway)!
