Well, to celebrate my new high-speed connection, why not post a link to a preview of ASUS' soon-to-be-released rendition of the much awaited (sort of) 780i chipset.- complete with picture!

Nice! But is the replacement to the 680i really needed? It is a decent chipset...

I guess it is if you want to run new processors at the very least- but you're right- it's not exactly a revolution

While the 680i did have some problems its been a great chipset since the bugs have been ironed out. So with the 780i coming out it means they will probably have fixed a few more and of course add the pci-e 2.0 and support for the higher processors.

When its released you can be I'll be trying it out.

this thread on a diffrent forum (which i happened to Google up) talks about this Mobo, and the second poster really caught my attention. if anyone is thinking about upgrading to this board, i suggest you read what he has to say.

I still would rather take the x38... if only it had sli support..

I think a lot of what is being said about this board is being fed by people who hate nvidia. Lets just wait till its out on the market before any real assumptions are made.

A lot of what's being said about this board is not from people who "hate" nVidia. It's from people who remember just how horrible the 680i was when it was first released.... I'm running my eVGA 680i right now (swapped out my P5K Deluxe last night) because I want to play Crysis, so I threw the other 8800GTS in the machine, and the experience was not bad, but I remember just how awful it was... Remember, it took many BIOS revisions, and a PCB revision to fix all the errors people were having with the original boards.

The 780i is based heavily on the 680i (understatement), but you can't possibly expect to run into the same glitches from the first version of the 680i on the new motherboard. It will liekly be pretty sound due to the experience gained with the 680i.

My guess is that it will cost the same as the 680i did when it was first released.

Well It doesn't look new at all... It's still on DDR2. well the All solid caps is nice and the bug fixes is nice. I just wonder if it'll really cost more $$$ than the current 680i.

My P35 Neo that I bought for 40$ does all that... but just a bit worse in performance :P
