Default NVIDIA Removes Restriction on ATI GPUs with NVIDIA GPUs Processing PhysX

Yup.
My impression is that Ferminators are hitting hard in nVidia sales so they're forced to beg ATI users to buy a at least a cheap nVidia card for PhysX.

Pretty funny actually! If they want PHYSx to stay alive, they HAVE to make it more mainstream anyway.

Fermilicious!

Smart move by Nvidia... Wel actually it would have been smarter to never impose the restirction in the first place. I mean what kind of logic leads to a policy that prevents people from buying more of your cards??? Even if it is lower profit margin cards it is still a sale to someone who is choosing ATI as their main processor anyways...

I see this as a defensive move that we can owe to the success of 5xxx series and the lateness of Fermi. Scramble for whatever cash you can grab.

Wonder if the price of GT220/240/250 cards will jump? They are a great low power, low heat companion for a 5xxx series. Doesn't cover the air intake of my 5870 card and doesn't need an extra power connector. And from what I can see the 96 shaders on my GT240 are only used between 10% and 48% by Physx. 48% is the Fluidmark benchmark which you would expect to use as much Physx power as it has avalable.... ???

Very interesting. I'll wait around and see how this pans out. May buy a cheap Nividia card soon if all goes well.

Do some comment have been deleted? I was sure to have commented on this one. Well here we go. Seems that Fermi is hitting hard than Nvidia thought. I don't think that is gonna change a big thing...

Well, in my situation, I might buy another GFX card for the family rig and Re-use the 8800GTS 640mb Superclokc that I have in there for PHYSX.....
We'll see if more game are using PHYSx and if NVIDIA stays "honest" on that one...

this is an interesting development indeed. I wonder if they will take it away if they come out with some killer successful architecture in the future
