Running low on PCI lanes

AnandTech: 6Gbps SATA Performance: AMD 890GX vs. Intel X58/P55

Interesting article, so I take it even with a sata2 ssd and video card we would need two PCI-E 2.0 16x (enabled motherboard) to get full band-width? Or am I miss reading this?
