Why, what makes you say they're bad?

There's nothing wrong with the 4870x2, although it is a little overpriced. A single card is $150 so I think the x2 should be less than the $510 or so that I see them for.

Well true. But you see blokes selling them for $300, even if they're only slightly used nowadays. Stores jack up prices. Apparently it performs a bit better than 2 4870 1GB's in CF, but still performance/price it's not worth it.

But you have to see that the 4870 and the X2 variant are both very good cards nonetheless. The 4870 still goes neck and neck with the GTX 260 216, and beat the old 260 hands-down. The X2 blew past the 280, and it didn't have as many microstuttering and internal-SLI (CF) problems as the 9800GX2.

100% FUD. THERE is NO 5970 or w.e you want to call it.
Doesn't FUD stand for "Fear, uncertainly, and doubt"? From what I understand, that's the opposite of what this is all about. Unless we are talking about the effect it might have on Nvidia :P

There's a reason why people sell them for cheap.... seriously. And I didn't start any arguments about the 4870, this is about the 5870X2/5970.

...Wait, WHAT?

You were something before about ATI being hit/miss on performance when it comes to dual-GPU cards, whereas I think they've been pretty good (i.e. 4870X2), and I was stating why...

They may not be super refined, as in they can be loud, power hogs, but their performance stands on it's own.
I don't think anyone could expect anymore for the 4870x2, other than a better cooler. At this level of performance and price people tend to be willing to pay for the best. When the x2 came out it was, then Nvidia released the 295. It didn't matter if the x2 was almost as good, it wasn't the best, so it lost a lot of its value and buyers. Being the best warrants a price increase beyond what the performance dictates in many cases (sucks for us buyers though).

With the 5870 coming in at just over $400, I can't see anyone paying more than $250 to $300 for a 4870 x2 when they can have more performance, DX11 and greatly improved power consumption characteristics for not that much more with the 5870.

ati has dropped the x2 branding, the new x2 model is called 5970, instead of 5870x2

No I meant the 4870, not the 4870X2. And as far as the card goes it simply couldn't match the 295, it didn't offer the best price/performance, the highest performance, nothing.

Oh a'ight my bad. Just kinda lumped that in cos the 4870 is like the 5870 of its time IMO.

4870X2 gets beaten by the 295, but it's still pretty close, and it's still less expensive.
