Default ORB Audio Mod2 Home Theater System review by Techgage

I got very very excited about these speakers until I saw the price....as I've said before speakers are one thing where you always need to pay the price for quality. Then I realized that they are not fully amplified, so forget about just plugging them into you sound card.

On as side note, I can't believe a new, less expensive, more accurate technology has not yet been developed for speakers- It's about the only electronic we use that hasn't been improved upon in a practical way for - who knows- 50 years? Anyway- If I had the cash, I'd be very interested for a well-amplified set of speaker such as these for my computer, although at this price, you're almost just as well off to buy a decent surround receiver with a set of paradigms to hook to your computer.

We were told that a fully amplified ORB speaker system is also in the works, for the PC audio market, so be looking for those as well. The ORB Mod2 home theater system earns a Techgage score of 8, for their excellent representation of the multichannel speaker package category and wonderful performance overall. If they were $100-$200 less expensive, however, I feel a '9' score could have been easily in hand.
  • Pros
  • Potent, powerful subwoofer
  • Excellent range of available finishes, each of high quality
  • Substantial, stylish stands
  • Smooth, balanced sound
  • Excellent spatial imaging
  • Cons
  • Detail can't match speakers with separate tweeters
  • Very little bass performance from satellite speakers
  • Expensive, so not the best value
