Default 25 CPU Cooler roundup for LGA 775: HEXUS

A surprising blow for teh Thermalright Ultra 120 in this comparo. In fact the results were a little suprising all the way around.

their most recommended were:

Editor's choice
1)Thermaltake Big Typ VX

Recommended
2)Thermaltake Big Typ VX
3)Scythe Miné
4)Tuniq Tower 120
5)Zalman 9700

Best Value
6)Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
7)Thermaltake Big Typ VX
8)Scythe Miné

Some coolers dashed our high expectations of them and some others missed out on a top-five overall spot but merit a further honourable mention.

We were most disappointed by the Thermalright Ultra-120 and the Noctua NH-U12F. They just didn't perform as we expected.

On a brighter note, the Titan Amanda did do well in the thermals. However, its weight is kind of scary and the cost a little frightening, too. Come on, now, £70 is a lot even for a specialist product aimed at the most serious of over-clockers.

The Cooler Master GemenII did okay in our performance tests but we wanted to see more from it. Like the Amanda, though, we hope to be back with another review in a larger chassis to discover just what it's truly capable of delivering.

Yeah- by the looks of things, you'd better stick with what you have.

enaberif, why? the back plate means you don't have to use those 4 flimsy s775 pushpins. you can crank the bt down as much as you want. also, the vx they reviewed i believe uses those push pins anyway making your backplate comment irrelevant.

ebdoradz, you mean a 25 heatsink roundup on amd? when it comes to cooling, a cpu is a cpu. whether a heatsink is cooling an intel or amd the same performance should carry over. yes, amd cpus have a larger ihs but that shouldn't affect things too much.

I have the Big Typhoon (about 4 months) and it has been great. I allowed me to push farther then my Zalman would let me. Even with the summer heat kicking in it stays very cool. Plus it is quite. I was hesitant to grab it over a thermalright product but it cools as well (apparently better) and it comes with a fan and speed controller for the same cost. Im happy with it.

Edit forgot to add Im AMD.
