Well, the little MemTest exe, the one which runs in Windows, reported errors almost immediately, and no errors at all after I removed the RAM module from DIMM slot B1. And then I took the RAM module which had been in B1 and put it in B2, and still no errors. So it's definitely not the RAM stick.... but I knew that already.
I got Nero installed and made the bootable CD for Memtest86. I have that running on my AMD machine right now (4 x 1 GB OCZ Reaper RAM modules) and at 74% complete, it's showing no errors. I knew that too, just wanted to test Memtest86, while I'm still busy installing stuff on this box.

It does appear I do in fact have a problem with B1, if the little MemTest app is to be believed. I'm relieved it's not the RAM module - I guess... but that would have been better than it being the mobo. ;-)

HCI memtest is much faster at finding errors for me then memtest86+
Sometimes an hour can do what took 8 in memetest86+

Glad you figured out the issue, now you can get it fixed and running as planned.

Ah, well again, I do appreciate your help, :)

How's that Mushkin RAM on a DDR3 board? I assume Mushkin comes in DDR3 by now? 2 GB sticks too?
When I got this P5Q it was really with the intention that it would become a part of my little LightWave 3D render farm eventually. I really wanted to get a DDR3 board, but decided to hold off a bit since they seem to have the newer chipsets. I wanted to wait for them to "get around" a little before getting one.

Cool. I'll definitely look into it. Tell you what - I believe you just made me a Mushkin customer. I can't think of any time I've ever been helped by a company rep in a forum using their product, let alone someone else's product. Thanks once again. :)

Well, it's definitely the DIMM slot and not the Windows Diagnostic Tool. The bootable memtest86 gave me errors with a stick in B1 and no errors without one in there.
Oh well. I'm not going to RMA the board though - too much hassle. This will only speed up my decision on a good DDR3 board, and the P5Q will do just fine as a render node, even with only 6GB RAM. Maybe I could get some 4 GB sticks though - the board does support up to 16 GB... supposedly.
