My System Specs

Default Patriot Viper Series DDR2

Has anyone used the DDR2 Viper series?

I'm looking at either of theses sets at Canada Computers.
PC2-8500
PC2-9600

I like the PC2-8500 model because it's 4GB, but I'm stuck between spending the extra money for the size or less money for the speed.

Check them out.

I'd just go for the 4G 8500...they're plenty fast already. And one thing to note is that they require quite a bit of voltage (2.3V)...so I'm not sure about how long they will last compared to other sets...but hopefully better than Ballistix. Well, I guess you could always just RMA but it is a hassle sometimes, and I'm not familiar with Patriot's RMA.

Haven't used either personally, but honestly, the benefits of the faster RAM aren't going to extend very far beyond synthetic benches, unless you've got a seriously high-powered rig. Whereas 4GB at least offers extra proof against more memory-hungry programs/OS.

Well it be safe to assume my rig is pretty high-powered.

It's been a huge debate on memory for me. Ballistix has been my choice for awhile but after I saw the 4gb deal it's making me reconsider.
