the prices have been brutal for a while. I'm glad I snagged a 16gb set when they were only a 100 bux.

Yea ram has become freaking brutal, I'm just happy that HDD and SDD prices are back to reasonable. It would have been awful to have both of them inflated. I'm looking to buy 32gb of Quad channel and 16gb dual channel in the next few weeks and its making my bank account cry already.

They have a factory burn down every 6 months dont they?

I bought 32gb of gskillz ram on sale about a year back for $150 now you pay that for 16 gb of the same kit.

There was a fire at Hynix in China. It wasn't burnt down however as such is nowhere as severe the HDD flooding incident. Plant is expected to be at full capacity again starting January (fired occurred in September). Hynix is also starting construction on a new plant in 2014, operational in 2015.

probably do it to their own factory's to up prices and grab insurance $ while the stock piles are high and rebuild while they are selling off stock.

Or just make it seem like more damage was done than there actually was. Although DRAM prices started to increase substantially before the fire.

Weren't folks predicting that something was going to have to happen to mem prices anywise? Seems to me there were suggestions of too many players in the field, and zero (if not negative) margins for chip manufacturers.
