Patriot Viper 3

Anyone use Patriot ram? Any good? I found a deal on these. I can price match for $159.00. Was thinking of going with a 2x8 kit rather than a 4x4 for stability and OC reasons.

I had a triple channel kit that ran fine. Latency and speed were good. Had the typical 'enthusiast' heat fins, but really wasn't any better or worse than the Corsair or Kingston ram I've used in the past. All the sticks worked out of the box so it beat every OCZ kit I've ever had....

Thanks FreeKnight. My first "high end" kit was some OCZ sticks. DDR2 1066. They worked fine but seemed to limit my Core2 OC. Went with a pair of Gskills I bought off a forum member and a faster core2 and Zing! I've been reading some reviews and it looks like the Trident X is some of the best but it only comes in red. I would go with the snipers but the performance/price ratio is way out of whack with those.

These sticks are really well priced as far as I can tell. Patriot and Geil were two brands that seemed to fall out of favor over the years but I did read some reviews of the Black Mamba and they seemed to be quite positive.

I have some Patriot Viper Extreme's (4x2) and have no issues with them at all. I'm not much of an overclocker but did the Asus auto tool and just to 4.2 without issue on a 3570k (didn't want to go higher). Frankly the only reason I got them is they are black with a bit of gold on them and look great. Don't regret it at all and match my hardware perfectly.

Thanks Nodscene. Black and gold would be perfect for the Asus Deluxe. Found some dominators for cheap as well. Thinking of going with faster moduals and sticking to 8GB's rather than 16 and putting the pennies elswhere.

Those dominators look nice but seem expensive for 8gbs. Tiger Direct seems to still have the Extreme's in stock for $62 after rebates. I think they are the same ones I have except this is just one stick from the looks of it.

Buy the Patriot Viper Xtreme 8GB Desktop Memory Module at TigerDirect.ca

Actually, they are really well priced being DDR3-2133. :thumb:

Maybe, but aside from benchmarking it's not going to make any difference aside from your wallet :)

That's what I used to think too. I've seen ~ 5fps gains in games using higher clocked memory. Faster load times etc. The difference in timings however is a wash unless your looking for bandwidth benchmarks. But MHz/GHz is still king. ;)

Interesting, thanks for posting the link. Of course I personally don't think I'd spend an extra money over this Patriot Viper 3 8GB 2X4GB PC3-17000 DDR3-2133 11-11-11-27 1.5V Dual Channel Memory Kit - Black Mamba. They also don't seem to give any info on the hardware they are using (at least from what I could see). If they aren't using an SSD then I don't think you will see the same improvements.

Of course I have no clue how the timing difference between those and the Dominators will affect things. That being said I'd rather go 16gb (with less speed) as 8 just isn't cutting it for me haha so take anything I say with a grain of salt ;)
