My System Specs

Default Performance Difference from DDR3 2000 to 1600

So I just got for Xmas from my Wife lovely lady but doesn't know much about computers but my AMD rep is a family friend and told her to get me a kit of 4x4gb ddr3 1600 AMD ram 9 9 9 24.

Issue is I have right now 8GB 4x2GB Patriot DDR3 2000 9 9 12 24 right now.(the timing is a guess I'm at work)

Will I see a big drop in performance/Overclocking going with the slower ram or will the doubled amount make gaming faster?

Thanks for all the help

Most modern processor architectures will see a completely negligible difference in performance. Unless you use extremely memory bandwidth intensive programs.

I would say you won't see a difference either way. Be it speed or capacity.

8GB is the "sweet spot" currently for RAM I'd say. I doubt you'll see any benefit from having 16GB, unless you do a ton of multi-tasking or leave a bunch of background apps running.

I would say regardless you will see little to no difference. 1600 vice 2000 is negligible and unless you run insanely memory hogging programs 8gb vs 16gb = 0 difference

+1

in synthetic benchmarks were talking like 1% perforce loss tops, you wont even see a difference.

though quality memory douse make a difference in the end if you have cash to burn on the topic of improving your computer speed 9 times out of 10 its better spent somewhere different on the pc in question.
better video card,sound card,cpu,etc
